Generic Case Studies for Manufacturing Simulation Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
model elements, input, and output data. Manufacturing managers typically commission simulation case studies to support their decision-making processes. These studies are used to evaluate alternative solutions to manufacturing problems in areas such as plant layout, scheduling, capacity planning, capital equipment acquisition, inventory management, and supply chain planning. Procedures for performing case studies vary from organization to organization, and situation to situation. It is possible that two different simulation analysts faced with the same manufacturing problem would perform their case studies differently, obtain different results, and reach different conclusions. The authors contend that standardization of the case study methodology and development of generic case studies would increase the likelihood that the simulation process will be deterministic, i.e., produce repeatable results. This paper presents background on case studies and makes recommendations concerning the advancement of manufacturing simulation case study methods and practices.

متن کاملThe Utilization of High Fidelity Simulation in the Support of UAV Launch Phase Design: Three Case Studies
Improvement of the launch phase of a jet powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) with Jet Assisted Take Off (JATO), has been the subject of attention in the UAV industry. Use of flight simulation tools reduces the risk and required some amount of flight testing for complex aerospace systems. Full nonlinear equations of motion are used to study and simulate this maneuver and three case studies of ...
متن کاملDevelopment And Use Of A Generic AS/RS Sizing Simulation Model
As usage of simulation analyses becomes steadily more important in the design, operation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing systems (and historically, manufacturing was the sector of the economy first eagerly embracing simulation technology), the incentive to construct generic simulation models amenable to repeated application increases. Such generic models not only make individual si...
متن کاملA Generic Simulation Framework for Efficient Simulation Analyses for Semiconductor Manufacturing: A Case Study
A generic simulator and data-driven generic simulation are widely used to reduce modeling efforts. The concept of a generic simulator includes the extracting and storage of the common parts of a domain. The common parts in semiconductor manufacturing simulation can be the scheduling logic and the operation rules of automated material handling systems, such as auto-guided vehicles or overhead ho...
متن کاملA Structured Approach to Simulation Modeling of Manufacturing Systems
Simulation is a powerful tool to analyze manufacturing systems for purposes of design and on-going operation. In recent years, simulation modeling and analysis have been enhanced significantly by increasingly powerful computational platforms. This has enabled development of high-fidelity models of manufacturing systems, at least from a computational perspective. Such high-fidelity modeling has ...
